Bruce Couture has been installing high performance parts on early and late model Mustangs since 1996. While working full time as a semi-conductor engineer, he started helping out at Charlie’s Mustangs in San Jose, CA. installing superchargers, Baer brakes, EFI conversions, mass air system’s in F series trucks, six speed conversions and more. If it was a V-8 or larger, Charlie’s shop made it faster.
The car that really started Modern Driveline (MDL) is Bruce’s 65 Mustang Coupe. Shortly after restoring the car, Bruce determined that the automatic transmission wasn’t a choice for him. Deciding that a T-5 transmission would be the best choice and finding that there were almost no parts available to do the conversion, Bruce started developing the parts himself. This led to interest in similar projects from acquaintances and a business was born. Many of the parts develop by MDL are built on Bruce’s own collection of cars. The MDL clutch cable kit, crossmembers, hydraulics kits were all fitted to his personal cars before being released as product for MDL.
In 2007 MDL relocated to Caldwell Idaho. During the last 13 years MDL has grown to over dozen employees with an extensive design /production facility and more than 10,000 sq ft of warehouse space for product inventory.
MDL has been a Tremec Elite distributor since 2008 allowing direct purchase from Tremec for both transmission assemblies and service parts. In addition to sales, MDL is a service center repairing Borg Warner T-5, T-45, T-56 as well as Tremec 3550, and 3650.
Celebrating more than 22 years in business, MDL was founded on Bruce’s passion for modern drivability in a classic Mustang. The company’s engineered solutions from flywheels, clutches to driveshafts and everything in between is all about the love of driving.
